It started with something I couldn’t find time to do.

I was standing at the barbecue one evening when my wife asked when I was finally going to get the car detailed again. I wanted it done. I just never seemed to find the time. Then it struck me: why couldn’t the detailing come to us?

That simple question became Cody Mobile. The idea was to make looking after your car and home easier, with people who enjoy the work coming to you, so you can get on with your day.

It still guides us today. We’re building our service community around auto detailing, window cleaning, lawn and garden care, and handyman services. Availability grows as the right local owners join us.

For customers, the promise is personal: someone who takes pride in the job, values your time, and wants to earn your business again. Behind that owner, we’re building the technology and community to help them stay organised, learn from others, and look after their customers well.

BUILT FROM EXPERIENCE

A ladder, a squeegee, a bucket—and my grandfather’s support.

I started my first window cleaning company at sixteen. My grandfather lent me the money to buy my first ladder, squeegee, and bucket. That’s how I got started.

That company is still going strong today. Over the years, my team and I have built many service businesses. We know the satisfaction of a job well done, the importance of a repeat customer, and how much work happens after the tools are put away.

We also founded The Better Software Company: business management software designed to help run entire franchise systems. Its work has supported organisations including Window Genie and Shine Window Cleaning, bringing the day-to-day pieces of running a service business together.

That experience taught us something we’re bringing to Cody Mobile: good technology should make the working day easier. It should help owners manage the business around their craft, without letting the administration take over their lives.

A promising beginning. A deeply personal pause.

We originally launched Cody Mobile as a franchise system. There was strong interest, and the early response gave us real confidence in what we were building.

On the day we were going live with our first franchisee, our son passed away. Our family’s world changed, and we had to step back and wind down our plans to grow Cody Mobile.

But the idea lived on through people like Brian, one of our original franchisees. More than a decade later, he’s still running his auto detailing business and still enjoying the work.

A coffee with Brian brought the next chapter into focus.

Brian sends me messages about how well things are going. Seeing the business he’s built, and how much he enjoys it, has meant a great deal to me. I’d been itching to return to Cody Mobile for some time.

When we met for coffee, we talked about the other side of working for yourself. He loved his business, but missed having people around him to exchange ideas with, celebrate a success, or work through a challenge.

We also talked about staying in touch with past customers. Repeat business had always been central to our approach, but in the busyness of running everything himself, that year’s follow-ups had slipped through the cracks. It was a reminder of how easily a good opportunity can be missed when one person carries the whole business.

And we talked about cost. A large franchise buy-in and substantial ongoing fees can be a difficult fit for someone who wants to earn a living doing work they love. That conversation helped me see how we could bring Cody Mobile back in a different way.

In 2026, we’re returning with a partner model.

Our next chapter brings together three things: collective brand building, practical technology, and a community of owners. Each matters. The community is what makes it personal.

A brand we build together.

Every well-finished job, branded van, and customer recommendation helps build trust in Cody Mobile. As AI makes it easier to launch a business and create an online presence, I believe a reputation earned through real service will matter even more. Our ambition is to build a national brand that helps every local partner become more recognisable and trusted.

Technology that helps with the everyday work.

Our experience in service businesses and software shapes the tools we’re building: helping with booking, customer follow-ups, repeat business, and referrals. The aim is to take more of the little things off an owner’s mind, leaving more time for the work and the customer.

People to learn from, and people to turn to.

Working independently shouldn’t mean feeling alone. We’re bringing owners together to share ideas, ask questions, celebrate progress, and help each other through the difficult days.

That includes practical learning. A new partner who wants training can reach out to an experienced partner and agree directly on the help, time, and price. It’s optional, peer-to-peer mentoring between business owners, supported by regular community conversations.

This is the model we want to build: room to own your business, support to keep improving it, and a shared interest in one another’s success.
